About the research
How did artists work in the art residence
During the Shishim Hill residence, Anna and Vitaly Cherepanov were actively monitoring the scene. The art residence turned into a cinema HQ that recorded events in various parts of the world.
The surveillance cameras that are open to public access served as cameramen tools in this process. Their lenses capture touristic city sights, dangerous intersections, luxurious real estate and even private spots.
The artists revealed to the guests how the surveillance logic works (for this, they organized a video walk through European cities together); how the collected material turns into a documentary movie – this was encouraged by the event with the demonstration of completed films and a follow up discussion. Finally, the audience turned into actors: for the last event, Anya and Vitaly installed CCTV cameras in the residence and on the site in front of it, having organized a small festival of making snow sculptures for guests and residents of the Shishim Hill.
