Ilya Grishaev
Perm – St. Petersburg
In his works, Ilya Grishaev analyzes the visual language of the surrounding reality, creates symbols that are born as plastic "traces": "I'm trying to create plastic bodies, comprised of form, seeking to become a sign and composed for some reasons, systems, rules, more obedient to the laws of poetics than of logic".

About the research
How did the artist work in the art residence
Ilya Grishaev is an artist who knows how to apply a variety of artistic and bodily techniques for a thorough work on the same thing. The subject of his constant aspirations is the ideal rebus-alphabet, which either describes the existing world, or creates a new one. He sets up and solves his riddle by means of graphic arts, electronic music, improvisational concerts, performance-walks and real frescoes.

The guests of the residence could get in touch with all facets of his search – from a truly nomadic walk around the Shishim Hill area to the demonstration of the graphic frescoes prints within the walls of the residence, which were earlier presented at the main project of the 5th Ural Industrial Biennale; from conversations, in the rhythm of which the pauses between phrases are almost more important than words, to conceptual sound constructions that Ilya composes as a member of the Liliiiiiiiiii musical band.
